Idolize The Music: Juelz Santana God Will'n (New Mixtape)
•Posted on January 14 2013
Rap has long been the most competitive form of music, so naturally, Santana was sizing up the other MCs in his sphere. Without naming any names, he expresses the utmost confidence in his rhyme abilities in a day where kings like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Drake reign supreme. "I know what I'm doing. I know what I'm capable of," he said. "Can I compete? Yes! That's not even a question."
Though he has had a number of guest appearances and a compilation LP with his group Skull Gang in 2009, it has been seven years since Juelz dropped his last solo project, his sophomore album That doesn't mean that he has been putting together God Will'n for the past seven years however. A 2011 police raid on his studio really took the MC out of his zone. "A lot of people don't know... my studio got raid. I lost a lot of music that I was recording within a period of that time," he explained. "I had to get back my creative mojo, I just wanted to create music and find a place that I was comfortable working at.
"I didn't really want to go to nobody else's studio," he continued. "When you have your own, it's like having your own house. You come and go as you please. You don't have nobody. You can unlock the door. It was just so much different so."
During his hiatus, a light bulb went off in the rapper's head and he went to work on God Will'n. "Something just clicked on me," Elz said. "I knew I was wasting a lot of time that I couldn't get back. I felt it. I knew that I was supposed to be givin' the people this music. I should've been giving the people this music."
